PRESS RELEASE
For immediate release: June 25, 2010 KFL PAC Endorses Patricia Lightner in the Republican Primary Race for KS 3rd U.S. Congressional District The Kansans for Life Political Action Committee has endorsed Patricia Lightner in the Republican primary race for the Kansas 3rd U.S. Congressional seat.
KFL Executive Director
Mary Kay Culp made the following statement on behalf of the Kansans for Life
Political Action Committee:
"Although there are
many pro-life Republican candidates running in the 3rd district congressional
primary in Kansas, our PAC is endorsing Patricia Lightner because she has
six years of legislative experience, and during those years had a 100%
pro-life voting record.
"Patricia served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 1999 through 2004. The last two years that she served coincided with the first two years that Kevin Yoder served in the Kansas House. A comparison of how they voted on the same bills shows Yoder voting pro-life only 3 out of 14 times, while Patricia voted pro-life 13 out of 14 times--the 14th being simply an absence. Most significant, in 2003, Lightner voted to override Gov. Sebelius' veto of the clinic licensing bill, while fellow Republican Yoder voted against overriding the Democratic Governor's veto of the bill which was designed to protect women from medically negligent abortion profiteers. "Although Yoder has voted more consistently pro-life on the abortion issue during the last few years, his views on the destruction of embryos for their stem cells, and end-of-life issues, remain of grave concern. "The recent election wins across the country by pro-life women is yet another factor that sets Lightner apart in this crowded field. Though not the only woman, and not even the only pro-life woman running in the primary, she is the only pro-life woman running with a voting record, and a 100% pro-life voting record at that. "Patricia's record includes votes FOR: the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, parental notice of a minor's abortion, health care workers' rights of conscience, abortion clinic licensing, Choose Life license plates, strict regulation of late-term abortion, banning the sale of fetal tissue and banning the cloning of human embryos at Kansas Universities. Patricia, however, is a strong supporter of research using adult stem cells, and embryonic-like stem cells created through ethical means. (Complete pro-life voting record available upon request.) "Patricia Lightner is dedicated, hard-working and tenacious. These qualities will serve her well in the task of reversing the newly passed health care bill, which mandates funding of abortion and does indeed include very serious threats to the vulnerable sick and elderly. She has what it takes to run in and win a general election against a pro-abortion woman likely to be supported by abortion providers, embryonic stem cell and cloning supporters and those promoting 'practical bioethics' at the end of life. "Patricia has assembled a great grassroots team, and her yard signs are already popping up all over the district. "Finally, Patricia showed real courage when she filed for this seat when it was believed that long-term incumbent Rep. Dennis Moore would seek re-election. "KFL PAC is deeply impressed with Patricia Lightner's commitment to life and is proud to endorse her for Congress."
