Reasons why Kansans For Life Political Action Committee endorses Senator Tim Huelskamp for the 1st District U.S. Congressional seat.

Pro-Life Voting Record

  • Tim Huelskamp has served as a Kansas Senator representing the 38th District (southwest Kansas including Dodge City & Liberal, KS) for 14 years.
  • Tim Huelskamp has a proven 100 % pro-life voting record.
  • For many years, the majority of the Kansas Senate was not pro-life. Tim Huelskamp has the courage to bring pro-life legislation to the Senate floor and demand a vote – even when it was a losing and unpopular cause.
  • There are many pressures on a Kansas Senator. Pressures from the lobbyists, the news media, the PAC’s, fellow legislators, donors, and pressure from constituents.  Through all this, Tim Huelskamp has never wavered from his pro-life convictions.
  • Tim Huelskamp has been a leader with pro-life legislative efforts in the Kansas Senate since his election.  He has on several occasions, challenged the leadership of the Senate and pressed for votes on controversial pro-life legislation.
  • Through the efforts of Tim Huelskamp, there was a vote to try and prevent funding of cloning in Kansas.  The leadership of the Senate had opposed having a vote on this controversial issue.
  • For the last several years, Tim Huelskamp has led the effort to stop taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood.  Planned Parenthood in Kansas performs more abortions than anyone else.  They are still under criminal investigation and do not merit any funding whatsoever.
  • There is only one other candidate who is serving as an elected official.  However, from the beginning, Kansans For Life has worked to educate this individual, persuade this person to vote correctly, and we continue to have to lobby this person because we are not convinced of their commitment – we cannot rely on a pro-life vote.
  • None of the other candidates have faced the challenges of an elected legislator.

Pro-Life Activity

  • Tim Huelskamp has attend multiple pro-life functions, events, rallies, and banquets.  He has participated in pro-life activities long before he ran for office.  In fact, his pro-life convictions were a primary reason for seeking public office.
  • Tim Huelskamp has spoken at the annual Rally for Life on January 22nd in Topeka. He attends the annual KFL Prayer Breakfast.
  • If there is a pro-life function going on, if possible, Tim Huelskamp will be in attendance.
  • A couple of the other candidates have attended a few pro-life functions but none close to the extent that Tim Huelskamp has been involved.

Other important factors

  • Tim, his wife Angela, and their four adopted children, live on a farm near Fowler, Kansas.  Tim is a rancher / famer who has lived in the 1st District his entire life (except when he was in college).
  • Tim Huelskamp earned a Ph.D. in Political Science with a specialization in Agricultural Policy from American University in Washington D.C.
  • Tim Huelskamp is a conservative Republican. A Roman Catholic. A Farmer / Rancher. An active and effective State Senator in Topeka.
  • One of the other candidates (Rob Wasinger) has lived in the Washington D.C. area for the last several years and recently moved to the district to run for office.
  • Another of the candidates (Tracey Mann) has lived and worked in Kansas City until moving back to Salina to run for office. He also has financially supported Jim Slattery, a Democrat who challenged Pat Roberts a few years back. Then, after Pat Roberts won the race, Tracey Mann gave Pat Roberts a donation as well.
  • Another of the candidates (Jim Barnett) recently moved his family to Kansas City.

Kansans For Life Political Action Committee acknowledges that there are other candidates that are pro-life running in this race.  However, none has the long-term proven pro-life track record of Tim Huelskamp.  Therefore, we enthusiastically endorse Tim Huelskamp and urge you to vote for him on August 3rd.
